Mister Francisco described a proposed model that would require each member to attend annual local conferences plus at least one other event on a rotating basis; unique or high-cost conferences would require a short approval request to the board president or finance-chair proxy. The goal, he said, is to "spread the wealth" and make attendance decisions predictable for scheduling and budget purposes.
Board members suggested keeping a centralized "warehouse" or calendar of conference opportunities and noted that advocacy events and some preconference sessions may be more useful to newer members. Board discussion emphasized both stewardship of public funds and the value of advocacy and continuing education.
After discussion the board approved a motion to preapprove travel, lodging and meal expenses for members to attend the joint annual conference (roll call passed). Board members said they will share conference notices with administration so the district can maintain a consolidated list and track who plans to attend.
