The Solon City Council approved its consent agenda May 20, passing multiple ordinances under suspension and final passage to authorize contracts, accept bids and accept donations.
Why it matters: The consent agenda completes routine city business โ funding or authorizing maintenance contracts, capital purchases and grant applications that support daily operations and infrastructure.
Key items approved included inspection and maintenance agreements for stormwater best practices with the Solon City School District for properties at 6795 Solon Boulevard and 6835 Som Center Road; acceptance of a final contract adjustment for the Forest Glen tree replacement project with Davey Tree Expert Company for $58,059.86; and acceptance of a bid from TC Construction Company for the 2025 annual catch basin repair program at $226,975.
The council also accepted a scope and fee proposal from GPD Group for $14,508 to prepare a 3-D rendering and plans for the Harper Road diverging diamond interchange, and adopted annual appropriations for personal services and other expenditures for 2025 with two committee-approved amendments for EMS billing and water reclamation plant renovation funds.
Police department purchases passed under emergency included authorization to buy a 2025 Chevrolet Blazer and upfitting equipment, and a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado PPV with upfit equipment through cooperative purchasing agreements. The council accepted donations totaling $2,500 for police programs (K-9 and D.A.R.E.) from a resident and authorized replacement of a diesel generator at the police station and replacement of the fire alarm system at the Solon Center for the Arts.
Council also authorized submitting a NatureWorks grant application to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources for up to $60,000 to repave the Solon Community Park pathway.
The motions were approved by roll call under suspension; the ordinances were presented, discussed briefly by council members and passed as part of the consent block.
