Sheriff seeks internal promotion, commissioners approve master lease agreement with Enterprise pending legal sign‑off

Sheriff Goldsmith told Tippecanoe County commissioners May 19 he plans to promote a current staff member to sergeant to lead a small team focused on traffic complaints and serving long‑standing warrants. The personnel committee had endorsed the change, which Sheriff Goldsmith said would cost about $3,500 in additional pay for the promoted employee and that funds exist within the sheriff’s budget.
Commissioners approved the position modification on a voice vote.
The board also approved a master lease agreement with Enterprise Fleet Management to place sheriff vehicles into the countywide Enterprise lease program, contingent on final legal review. County officials said the county has been transitioning most county vehicles into Enterprise’s program and that moving the sheriff’s fleet would improve budgeting predictability and routine vehicle replacement, and could save “several hundreds of thousands of dollars over the years.” Officials also said there is no obligation to remain in the Enterprise program indefinitely.
Both actions were approved by voice vote; the lease agreement was approved pending final legal approval.
