Town awards $266,317 paving contract; road agent outlines culvert and drainage repairs

Separately, Road Agent Russ Pearl told the board the town has several failing driveway culverts—many rusted or crushed—that are contributing to drainage problems. He said crews had flushed plugged culverts and identified a number that will need replacement this year. He noted typical culvert sizes vary (12 to 15 inches) depending on driveway geometry and that some previous installations were not set deep enough, contributing to long-term failures.
Pearl also described plugged storm drains and planned replacements: “All of the ones that are plugged are scheduled to be changed, replaced this year.” The road agent and selectmen discussed logistics and noted weather and access could affect scheduling.
Selectmen discussed past contractor performance and noted the town had used the recommended bidder previously. The board characterized the action as acceptance of the lowest responsible bid and authorized the road agent and town administrator to schedule the project.
