Board approves personnel recommendations; Andrea Guerrero named Washington Elementary principal

The Springfield SD 186 Board of Education approved the superintendent’s personnel recommendations Monday, with several noted exceptions on the addendum and with at least one board member registering a no vote on a named addendum item.
During the personnel report, the superintendent asked the board to remove one administrator from consideration for the Grant Middle School summer program and to address that item at the next meeting. The board then voted on the personnel slate; roll call recorded seven yes votes with specific exceptions noted in the minutes.
The board used the meeting to introduce Andrea Guerrero as the new principal of Washington Elementary School. Guerrero attended the meeting with her husband, Sam Hamra, and briefly thanked the board. The superintendent and board members welcomed Guerrero and said they looked forward to working with her in the coming months.
The board also introduced Rachel Johnson as the district’s new coordinator for math and science. Administrators said Johnson previously served as a TIL and had worked at Southeast High School for 14 years; she will assume the coordinator role after being included in the personnel slate.
Board members recorded their votes with one board member noting a “no” on an addendum subitem. The motion passed and administrators said transfer and hiring actions will proceed following board approval.
