Public Works board approves adding HR module to UKG timekeeping system

The Public Works and Safety Board on May 19 approved adding the human-resources and learning modules of the department’s existing UKG Kronos timekeeping system to centralize training, leave tracking and OSHA reporting.
City staff told the board the HR side of UKG includes training portals and a leave-management component that would help track FMLA and other leaves and generate OSHA reports. “We already have implemented the UKG Kronos system, which is utilized by payroll to do timekeeping,” a staff member said during the meeting. Staff said the modules would improve accuracy and efficiency compared with the current piecemeal process.
Officials also said they negotiated a discount on implementation fees. “I actually was able to get a lower cost for the city, to implement this program,” the staff member said. The board voted to approve the professional-services fee and implementation.
The board did not provide a detailed dollar amount for the professional-services fee during the discussion; staff said a discounted rate had been negotiated. The motion approved implementation of the HR and learning modules and associated professional services; the board recorded the motion as approved.
Staff said the modules will also produce more consistent OSHA reports by allowing staff to define criteria rather than manually assembling data. No timeline for full deployment was given during the discussion.
