Board approves multiple curricular and program items, highlights library staffing gains

The board reviewed and approved several curricular items recommended by the Education Programs & Resources committee on May 19.
Committee members noted a first look at a world language curriculum for grades 9‑12 and recommended second‑stage approval for intermediate math (grades 6‑8), English language development courses (grades 6‑12), family and consumer sciences (grades 6‑12) and business courses (grades 9‑12), with accompanying books and materials presented as the second vote. The board approved those curriculum and materials votes as published on the agenda.
The committee also thanked library staff for a presentation showing that additional librarian and support staffing authorized last year improved circulation metrics, eliminated library closures during lunch and increased access, especially at elementary schools. Committee members encouraged board members and the public to attend EPR meetings to see curriculum and program presentations.
