Cornwall Central board grants tenure to athletic director Jason Simo, approves other personnel actions

Board President announced a separated vote on the athletic director’s tenure and said, “We have 9 eyes to grant tenure to athletic director Jason Simo.” The separate motion carried and the board then voted on the remaining personnel items; the board recorded eight yes votes and one abstention for the remainder of the personnel slate.
The separate vote followed an early change in the meeting order that moved personnel actions ahead of the scheduled public-comment period. The board’s public comment period later included remarks urging residents to vote in the district budget referendum scheduled for the next day.
John Hines, president of the Cornwall Central Teachers Association, used public comment to urge community members to “please vote yes tomorrow at Cornwall Central Middle School,” saying a budget defeat could force cuts of up to $1,400,000 and eliminate four or five teaching positions.
Assistant principal Mark Ray and student representatives also addressed the board during public comment and the student report; those remarks thanked the board for supporting tenure and highlighted ongoing school events.
The board did not identify individual movers or seconders for the motions in the public record during the meeting. The athletic director tenure vote and the remaining personnel approvals were recorded on the public record as carried by the votes announced at the meeting.
The board moved on from personnel business to other agenda items, including a later discussion of central-office salary increases and the superintendent’s forthcoming departure.
