La Porte Historic Preservation Commission approves March minutes, notes open seats and state report submission

The City of La Porte Historic Preservation Commission approved its March 18, 2025, meeting minutes and adjourned its May 20 meeting at 5:46 p.m., the commission recorded.

Commissioner Peter Steele moved to approve the March 18 minutes; Krista Hurley King seconded the motion and the commission voted to approve. Later in the meeting Peter Steele moved to adjourn; Krista Hurley King seconded and the motion carried.

Sally Larocco, chair, reported that the commission currently has three open seats on its seven-member panel and encouraged members to suggest candidates with backgrounds such as architecture, engineering, real estate or history. Larocco said the commission remains a decision-making body while seats are empty but prefers a full complement for broader expertise.

David Heinold, the city planner, was asked to make sure the commission has a booth at the upcoming Sunflower Fair so the commission can engage residents. Larocco said the commission received a letter from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources noting historic-preservation-month displays; the commission will place one poster in City Hall and consider placements at the county museum and library.

Larocco also reported she submitted the commission's certified local government report to the state earlier in May; the commission awaits state review. These items were recorded as announcements and administrative business; the meeting record shows no additional formal actions on these matters at the May 20 session.
