Council to consider 5-year recycling contract extension; procurement says vendor will hold prices three years

City staff placed a proposed extension of Waste Management's recycling-services agreement on the agenda for council consideration at the regular meeting.
Procurement staff said Waste Management agreed in negotiations to hold pricing for three years, with a consumer-price-index adjustment in years four and five if council approves a five-year renewal.
“We did receive a percentage, but, last year, but I apologize. I can't think of it off the top of my head, but we certainly will get that number for you, to bring to tomorrow's meeting,” procurement staff said when asked whether the city had data showing how much of collected material is actually recycled.
Staff identified Waste Management representative Mr. Berg as the company contact who will attend the regular meeting to answer questions about recycling operations. Staff also said they would confirm the source of the recycling statistics and bring documented figures to council.
No formal vote on the contract extension occurred during the pre-agenda meeting; staff presented the negotiated pricing terms as the basis for discussion at the upcoming council session.
