County staff outline $14M+ Commerce allocations for housing and eviction prevention; action to follow

County budget and housing staff briefed the Board of County Commissioners on May 20 about anticipated Department of Commerce allocations for homelessness-related grants (referred to in the briefing as CHG). Staff said preliminary figures total approximately $14 million, including a large homelessness-prevention component and additional allocations for eviction prevention and document-recording fee returns.
Chris, the county presenter, said the CHG award combines multiple funding lines: a homelessness-prevention category, inflationary adjustments and a document-recording fee feed, totaling roughly $14 million. He said the county expects about $9.8 million designated for eviction-prevention programs (some to be coordinated with the City of Spokane) and that county staff will submit the second part of the CHG application to Commerce by the stated internal deadline.
Staff said allowable county administrative costs were budgeted around 15% but that the final administrative take will depend on project budgets and allocations. They noted the county had planned for potential state reductions in prior budgeting but that Commerce’s final numbers exceeded earlier reduced scenarios.
Staff said they will finalize project budgets, fit recommended projects into grant categories and present the CHG award and recommended allocation for the board’s legislative approval when the grant award is confirmed.
