Veterans Museum cannon reassembled; board delays final placement as summer events approach

At the May 20 meeting, the Veterans Museum reported that a historical cannon had been reassembled and placed in the museum while the board considers a permanent display location; the board agreed to delay a final placement until additional members could vote.

Pam, identified as a Veterans Museum representative, said, "the cannon was reassembled and is in the museum awaiting decision on where it ultimately will alight." She added the museum will be open for a planned cannon shoot on Monday, with the timing "somewhere around noon depending on how the honor guard from the legion moves through their cycle of ceremonies."

Board members discussed display options. One board member suggested placing the cannon in the museum during off-season weather and moving it outdoors while visitors are present so people could photograph and touch it without entering the museum; the board agreed to wait for input from members Levi and Terry before voting on a permanent placement.

The board also reviewed upcoming events. A 4‑H swine show and related fair activity were described as a one-day event with setup possibly starting the day before; staff reported the event expects between 200 and 500 attendees. The board confirmed parade participation plans (including a Knights of Pythias parade and the Memorial Day parade) and noted volunteers and rubber ducks for parade activities; a wedding booking and food trucks were also noted.

For the cannon and other display decisions, the board tabled final action pending additional member input; no formal motion to relocate the cannon was adopted.
