Park board reviews plumbing, mowing equipment and staffing gaps after storm damage

At the May 20 meeting, the Henry County Park Board received a maintenance and staffing update covering plumbing failures, equipment failures, storm tree damage and short-term hiring plans.
Liz, a park staff member, told the board that recent rainstorms and plumbing issues delayed restroom availability and that one mower is out of service while a broken spring part is on order. "We are down 1 mower, but the guys are trying to weed eat and mow as best as they can right now," Liz said. She added that mowing has been “very spotty” until the spare part arrives.
Board members discussed storm damage to trees and clearing of roadways. The chair said crews had removed the tree blocking Golf Course Road and cleared several trees near the pond; additional dead or damaged trees will be scheduled for removal. The board discussed whether felled material should be left in place or dragged to the ditch when removed.
On staffing, Liz said inventory work is current and will be submitted with this week’s claims. She reported interviews for seasonal mowing positions were scheduled and that at least one part-time employee had recently returned. The board also learned that Ranger Kenny, a park ranger, is recovering from minor surgery and is expected to return around June 21.
The board did not take formal personnel actions at the meeting but directed staff to continue recruitment for seasonal mowers and to report inventory and part-arrival updates at the next meeting.
