Sheriff Eric Ellison asked the Board of Supervisors to approve the purchase of an all-terrain vehicle (2024 Polaris Expedition) and ancillary equipment, including a Starlink communications unit, to improve response capability in remote areas such as Lower Eagle and the Frisco.
Ellison said the purchase would let deputies access hard-to-reach recreational areas and respond quickly to incidents where road access is limited. He described bids ranging from about $34,000 to $42,000 and asked that the purchase be funded from the county contingency fund. County staff stated the not-to-exceed amount for the purchase would be $40,000.
A motion to approve the purchase of a 2024 Polaris Expedition with attachments (including communications equipment) in an amount not to exceed $40,000 passed by voice vote; the chair announced the motion carried.
Ending: The sheriff said the unit could be delivered immediately and thanked the board; funding will come from the contingency fund and staff will process procurement paperwork.
