IDOT-directed closure planned at Elmhurst/Route 83 for pipe work; Dundee access to 7‑Eleven to remain open

Village staff told trustees May 19 that the intersection of Route 83 (Elmhurst) and Dundee Road will be closed tentatively the first week in June for pipe work after a contractor could not directional-bore a section of pipe.
"That shutdown has been scheduled tentatively for the first week in June," the public works director said, explaining the work itself will take about a day to a day and a half but the concrete pour and cure time will extend the full closure to roughly a week. He said the schedule is tentative and depends on contractor availability and project conditions and that the Illinois Department of Transportation directed the closure.
Village Engineer Kyle Gettleman said contractors told staff they will have Dundee Road access to the nearby 7‑Eleven open during the intersection closure. "They did say that they will have the, Dundee Road access to to 7‑11 open," Gettleman said in response to a trustee question about access.
Staff said Dundee Road will remain open east‑west but northbound Elmhurst traffic will not be able to cross the intersection during the closure; the village will provide updates through project reports and direct communications if the schedule changes.
The village did not set a final date for the closure and said it will notify the public as plans firm up.
