Morton board approves fireworks funding and reappoints fire & utility commissioners; names planning commission replacement

At its May 19 meeting, the Village of Morton Board of Trustees approved paying $15,000 to the Morton Park District to cover half of the cost of the annual fireworks display, continued the village’s long-standing partnership with the park district, and approved related consent-agenda items.
Trustees also reappointed three commissioners—Ken Helmuth (term ending 04/30/2026), Steve Newhouse (term ending 04/30/2027) and Kevin Roberts (term ending 04/30/2028)—to the village’s fire/police commission roster to create staggered term expirations. The board appointed Wesley Sutter to the Planning Commission to replace John Cirelli; the planning-commission term was listed as ending 04/30/2028.
The fireworks funding motion and the reappointments passed on roll-call votes. Joel Dickerson of the Morton Park District thanked the board for the continued partnership and asked trustees to approve village support for the Independence Day celebration.
