The Nantucket Planning and Economic Development Commission on Tuesday authorized a public review period for the draft FFY 2026 Unified Planning Work Program and set a public meeting for June 23 to collect comments.
Staff described the UPWP as the federally required work program for regions that receive federal transportation funds and said the FY 2026 total is $337,187, a 2% increase from the prior year. “For this year, FY 2026, there was a 2% increase over last year's funding, and this year's total is 337,187,” a staff presenter said.
Planned data-collection activities include continuing maintenance of the traffic-data dashboard—six permanent traffic counters that record speed and volume—and the expansion of permit traffic counters. Planning activities listed in the draft include updating the master plan and syncing it with the long-range transportation plan and a local strategic plan, strategies to reduce single-occupancy-vehicle trips, and resiliency work for the harbor front using federal grant opportunities.
Staff also said it has an open procurement in the finance department for a traffic-modeling consultant and a separate procurement for a parking-management vendor. The draft UPWP includes priorities for a safety action plan that staff will present next month and in July.
The commission voted to open a public review period from May 23 to June 23, 2025, with a public meeting on June 23 at 5 p.m., and to authorize staff to solicit comments through communications outreach.
