Council authorizes CAC to modify Waterford Community Center lease space for food storage compliance

The Gardner City Council on May 19 authorized the Gardner Community Action Committee (CAC) to modify its leased space at the Waterford Community Center to comply with USDA food-storage requirements.
Councillor Gurnell Alowicz told the council the CAC needs to build a wall so refrigeration and food storage can be secured behind locked doors per federal guidelines when the center is not staffed. The finance committee reviewed the request in advance and recommended authorization.
The council moved and seconded the measure to authorize the CAC to modify the leased space; the motion carried on a voice vote. Council direction was limited to requiring that any major alterations comply with the terms of the CAC’s lease and receive city approval per lease provisions.
