Council rescinds chamber naming, agrees to plaque honoring Ronald F. Cormier

The Gardner City Council voted on May 19 to rescind prior votes that had designated the council chambers in honor of the late Ronald F. Cormier and instead approved purchasing a commemorative plaque per the family’s request.
Councillor Mack moved to rescind the June 17, 2024 and September 4, 2024 votes that had named the council chambers; the motion was seconded and discussed. Mack reported the Ronald F. Cormier Memorial Committee — which included former councillors and family members — recommended a plaque and provided requested wording and a photograph. The committee told the finance committee it preferred a plaque in the chambers rather than renaming the room.
The council approved rescinding the prior votes and authorized the mayor’s office to order and install a plaque in council chambers in the style recommended by the memorial committee. The motion passed on a voice vote.
