Committee hears update on Mackay Park; transfer of funds tied to completion of work at Park Street Park

Committee members reported that the Community Development and Planning director has been communicating with utility companies about outstanding work at Park Street Park that must be completed before funds can be transferred. The director has documented email communications and a contact at the utility company; committee members said they will follow up on progress at the next meeting.
President Tyre summarized the status, saying the director “has a documented history of emails and communication, has reached out, to, Verizon, and, National Grid,” and that the director is continuing to follow up. Committee members noted that work had been occurring at Park Street Park as of the last meeting; once that work is complete the remainder of the funds “will be encumbered” and moved to Mackay Park to cover accessibility changes.
The committee acknowledged the mayor and the director were unable to attend the May 16 meeting and said the item would remain on the committee agenda and be revisited when the director can attend. Committee members said the city wants Mackay Park to be usable when weather improves; President Tyre said, “We want people to be able to use Mackay Park.”
No formal vote was taken on Mackay Park during the May 16 meeting; the committee left the item on the agenda for follow-up and requested updates at the next meeting.
