The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Madison approved Resolution 2025-23b Monday to name a segment of Milton Street “American Legion Way.”
The resolution, presented to the board by a representative supporting the American Legion, was approved by a motion and second and carried by a voice vote.
During discussion a board member noted the Legion post has been at that location for more than 40 years and that the designation recognizes the organization’s public-service and philanthropic contributions to the community. The mayor and board members agreed the city might pursue a similar designation for the VFW but noted the VFW street is a county road, so coordination with the county would be required.
The formal action was limited to the naming and sign installation on the Milton Street segment identified in the resolution; the transcript does not record additional ceremonial plans or a formal dedication date.
