The Mahomet-Seymour CUSD 3 Board of Education approved a 36-month lease with Aligni Nissan on May 19 for three driver-education vehicles after the vendor that submitted the lowest bid (a Honda dealer) could not secure financing through its leasing provider.
District staff recounted outreach to the high bidder and explained that the winning bidder could not complete the lease because the leasing company could not locate the district in its system. The district moved to its second bidder, Aligni Nissan, which offered acceptable pricing under a new government program that reduced the effective lease cost compared with the original bid range.
Administrators confirmed the vehicles’ mileage limits (12,000 miles) and said the district typically runs its driver-ed cars with similar mileage allowances; trustees asked about student enrollment and whether the number of vehicles matched program demand. Staff said the junior class is large (roughly 290 students in one class cohort) and that current staffing levels remain the same. The board approved the lease by roll call vote.
District staff said surplus vehicles will be processed according to district procedures and that the leased cars will be placed into the driver-education fleet for the coming school year.
