Senate committee forwards Kim Cruz nomination to Title and Escrow Commission

The Utah Senate Business and Labor Confirmation Committee on May 19 voted unanimously to forward the nomination of Kim Cruz to the Title and Escrow Commission for consideration by the full Senate.
Kim Cruz, who said she has worked in title and escrow for more than three decades and currently serves as president of Fidelity National Title Utah, told the committee she seeks the commission post to strengthen industry standards and protect homeowners and consumers from fraud.
"Fraud prevention is not only a back office concern anymore. It's a frontline priority for our business," Cruz said, listing seller impersonation, wire fraud and the advance of artificial intelligence as growing threats to real-estate transactions. She described her background operating both within a national title company and running a local title business prior to returning to Fidelity National.
Committee members asked about Cruz’s industry experience and local ties; she said she lives in South Jordan and works out of Fidelity’s Murray office. Senator Bridal moved to forward Cruz’s nomination with a favorable recommendation; the committee voted unanimously to do so. Senator Escamilla joined the committee online and voiced support for the nomination during discussion.
Cruz said, if appointed, she would focus on strengthening safeguards, industry education and practical, ethical policy-making to protect consumers. The full Senate will consider the nomination at a later date.
