The Select Board accepted May 19 a staff memorandum responding to a letter alleging procedural errors in a recent election. The staff memo acknowledged that state election laws were not followed in some respects, including that the two election clerks present were not from different major parties and that the selection of the moderator was not documented.
Mark and Joe said they have held staff meetings to address the issues and will implement recommended process changes. Mark emphasized concern about absentee-ballot handling procedures nationwide and told the board he was glad the issue was brought to the town’s attention. The board voted to accept the staff response and authorized the chair to sign the reply letter.
