Mark, the town’s accounting/audit staff, briefed the Select Board May 19 on several small fund balances and recommended consolidating minor reserves to simplify accounting. Mark proposed transferring a remaining CARES grant balance of roughly $3,600 to a town 'clock' or health-related fund; moving an $8 aerial-photo reserve to the general reserve; and consolidating a $591 computer reserve into the broader technology reserve. He also recommended combining two cemetery perpetual-care funds (Wilbur Cemetery Fund and the general cemetery fund) into a single 'cemetery maintenance' fund, while keeping a separate cemetery capital reserve intact.
Board members raised concerns about whether one of the cemetery funds had legal or donor restrictions. Mark agreed to investigate legal or historical constraints before combining cemetery accounts. The board approved the other recommended transfers, excluding the cemetery consolidation; the motion implementing Mark’s recommendations with the cemetery exception passed.
