Senate Bill 2784 would move district elections to the uniform May election date and set four‑year terms. To transition to staggered terms, directors elected in 2026 would draw lots to establish two‑ and three‑year transitional terms; beginning in 2027, directors would be elected to staggered four‑year terms. The sponsor said the change would promote continuity in oversight and allow board members more time to learn operations.
Committee members opened public testimony and heard none; the chair closed testimony and left the bill pending. Later in the session the committee reported Senate Bill 2784 to the full Senate with a do‑pass recommendation and placed it on the local and noncontested calendar.
