District posts tentative 2025–26 budget for public display; board schedules workshops and public hearing

Naperville Community Unit School District 203 trustees received and discussed the tentative 2025–26 budget at Monday’s meeting and were reminded that the tentative budget was placed on public display May 9.
Superintendent and finance staff reviewed the schedule: the board will hold an additional workshop on June 2 to review questions, a public hearing is set for June 16, and district practice is to adopt a working budget well before the state deadline of Sept. 30. The district circulated responses to board questions in BoardDocs and indicated additional questions submitted that day would be added to the public record.
Board members asked the administration for the state budget form (the standardized filing the district submits to the Illinois State Board of Education) to be made available earlier in the process so members can review accounting codes while the budget is still under consideration. Finance staff said the state form had only recently been posted by ISBE and that the district had downloaded it; staff noted the district’s internal coding maps to the same state fund/function/object structure and that the budget workbook already reflects comparable codes.
Citizen Finance Committee volunteers reviewed the tentative budget with district finance staff in a recent meeting and provided feedback, the board heard. The superintendent and CFO asked trustees to continue sending questions in advance to allow staff to produce thorough responses for the workshop and public hearings.
The board also agreed to place review of board governance and the board development session on the calendar so members can revisit procedures and expectations as new trustees assume office.
