Residents ask Pulaski County to vacate Merle Road section; commissioners to inspect and consult highway superintendent

Other owners worried that vacating the entire quarter‑mile could landlock other parcels that have frontage on adjacent roads and might be developed in the future.
Commissioners said they would look at aerial photos, consult with the highway superintendent and take a closer look on site before making a decision. "I think it's best for us to take a look at that as well, have an opportunity to talk to our highway superintendent about that and take a closer look," a commissioner said. No formal motion to vacate was made at the meeting.
The board asked staff to gather more information, including maps and pictures, and to return with recommendations about whether a partial closure (between the two requesting owners) or a larger vacation would be appropriate given access for adjacent properties.
