Metro Action Commission to receive THDA grant for eviction prevention; agency says program ending June 30

The Budget & Finance Committee approved a resolution accepting a grant from the Tennessee Housing Development Agency to the Metropolitan Action Commission (MAC) for an emergency rental assistance/eviction prevention program.
Dairo Oluwadamlala, interim executive director and transformation and eviction director at MAC, described the program as eviction prevention that provides financial assistance and housing‑stability services based on income and documented hardship. He said year‑to‑date MAC had been awarded about $2,000,000 for related efforts; MAC requested approximately $350,000 of that amount on behalf of Metro and anticipated an additional $220,000 to arrive in the next two weeks. Oluwadamlala said the program is scheduled to shut down June 30, and MAC is prioritizing applications to assist families before that date.
Committee members asked whether homeowners are eligible. Oluwadamlala said homeowners can be eligible and that MAC has served a smaller number of homeowners—often senior citizens—who can demonstrate hardship. Finance staff and MAC representatives said the current iteration is specific to eviction prevention and related assistance and that the funding originated through federal programs tied to the American Rescue Plan Act (ERA/ARPA‑designated programs), though MAC noted differences between iterations of federal rental assistance and the eviction‑prevention contract language being accepted.
The resolution passed the committee 11-0. MAC representatives said they will continue outreach to enroll eligible families while the program remains open.
