Pulaski County staff recommended the county apply for a planning grant through OCCRA to update its comprehensive plan, noting the current plan dates to 2009.
Nathan said a Ball State report and recent community input indicate the county needs a new roadmap for growth and land use. "We are of the opinion that it is the time for the county actually, past due for the county, maybe to go to curve c to help us with an application for a planning grant through OCCRA to update the county's comprehensive plan," Nathan said, using the phrasing he reported from prior CDC and community briefings.
County staff said the Plan Commission must be involved and will be asked to make a recommendation before the Board of Commissioners could adopt any new plan. Nathan offered to begin the grant conversation, check grant timelines and estimate a local match commitment. Commissioners encouraged staff to prepare a formal recommendation and bring it to the board at the next meeting.
Officials did not commit to a grant amount or local match during the meeting; those details will be determined as staff develops the application and consults the Plan Commission.
