Uvalde CISD honors students for state-level contests, music and athletic achievements

District staff member Miss Colas said, "Their dedication, passion, and culinary skills brought them to the state competition where they represented our district with pride and excellence," introducing several groups that had qualified for or received recognition at the state level.
The district recognized the Saucy Lady Lobos barbecue teams, whose maroon and black squads earned the opportunity to compete at the 2025 high school barbecue state championships in April. Uvalde High School's Daveer Willis was honored for finishing seventh in the Class 4A 100-meter dash at the state track and field meet on May 1 at Mike Myers Stadium in Austin, recording a personal-best time of 10.83 seconds. The school also celebrated 15 Uvalde High School mariachi students who received the Texas Music Educators Association statewide music award and were designated Texas Music Scholars; Albert Martinez was identified in the meeting as the mariachi director who nominated them.
The program also recognized a high-school powerlifter identified in the transcript as Madeline Perez (the transcript includes a later reference to "Natalie" in the same remarks) for competing at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting State Championship on March 14 in Edinburg, Texas. Uvalde High School tennis player Alicia Teague was honored after winning the Class 4A Region 4 girls' singles regional championship and earning a berth to the UIL state tennis tournament held in San Antonio in May; the district noted it had not been represented at UIL state tennis in over 38 years.
Coaches and family members joined students on stage for photographs and applause. The recognitions included coaches named in the meeting: Jerry Trevino (track), Nolan Pritchard (tennis head coach), assistant coaches Jane Walker and Cheyenne Mueller, and mariachi director Albert Martinez.
The ceremony concluded with families invited to remain for photos and brief remarks of appreciation.
