City staff, consultants to launch Beloit Climate Action Plan; kickoff June 5 at library

Beloit staff reported that the city awarded a contract to consultant Pale Blue Dot to create a Climate Action Plan; staff will kick off the planning process on Thursday, June 5 at the Beloit Public Library.
City staff described data gathering completed over recent months to form emissions baselines for the city as an organization and the community of roughly 37,000 residents. The process will include sector-focused teams and public engagement on strategies across transportation and mobility, land and housing, buildings and energy, waste management, water and wastewater, local food, health and safety, green space and the local economy. Staff said the planning work will likely take about a year and will include multiple working meetings and public input opportunities.
Staff noted a roughly 35-person team assembled to support the work and said the consultant has experience in the region. The goal is to produce a plan with baseline emissions and strategies to reduce emissions over time. Staff said they will update the council as the work proceeds and invited participation in the June 5 kickoff.
The council received the report; no vote was required.
