Van Buren County commissioners voted May 5 to authorize the county trustee to invest county money at her discretion, saying the move is intended to earn additional interest on idle balances.
The motion, made by Terry Hickey and seconded by Kale Crane, passed on a unanimous roll call after discussion that described the request as a routine cash-management decision. “She's just wanting to invest another amount so that we can make money instead of the money just sitting there,” a speaker said during discussion.
Commissioners asked whether anyone had questions and then took a roll call vote with all members recorded as voting yes. No specific investment instruments or limits were discussed during the meeting; commissioners instructed the trustee to proceed under whatever local policies and constraints govern investments.
