School committee approves additional school‑choice seat, tuition rates, building use and MOA adding club stipends

The Longmeadow School Committee on May 15 took several administrative votes covering enrollment, tuition, facility use and staff stipends.

The committee voted unanimously to reopen one additional school-choice seat in Grade 5 for the 2025–26 school year after a previously accepted choice student became regularly enrolled. The committee also set the out-of-state tuition rate for 2025–26 at $17,275, following past practice of using the district’s most recent per-pupil expenditure; officials said that an out-of-state family from Connecticut is likely to apply under that rate. The committee additionally set the full-day preschool annual tuition at $6,000 for 2025–26 and said it will conduct a lottery if demand exceeds seats, giving preference to returning preschool families.

A building-use request from CAP Kids for the Longmeadow High School gymnasium on dates listed in the packet was approved. The committee also approved a memorandum of agreement with the Longmeadow Education Association Unit A to add three additional club stipends (Appendix A, Section 7) and authorized the chair to sign the MOA.

All motions listed on the agenda were approved by roll-call votes during the meeting; members recorded unanimous support on the motions that were moved and seconded. The committee recorded votes by roll call consistent with remote-participation rules; the meeting introduction noted that Mass. Gen. Law permits remote participation through June 30, 2027, and roll-call votes are required when members participate remotely.

These votes were routine, administrative actions required to set tuition policy, manage facility scheduling and finalize a memorandum of agreement after executive-session bargaining discussions. No further budget appropriation was approved at the meeting; the committee directed staff to proceed with notifications and lottery processes as needed.
