"There's something special. There's a spark in this building that when you come into this place, you feel like you're doing something, something important," Speaker 1, Commenter, said. "You do big things here. Our kids are doing great things. They go on to be great people, important people."
Speaker 3, Commenter, called Westside "its crown jewel," saying the school's long-standing reputation leads the community to protect and value it. "I do think the reputation of Westside has been strong for so long that the community sees this school as its crown jewel," Speaker 3 said.
Speakers credited the local community, families and school administration for the school environment. "The community itself is the reason why I came here," Speaker 2, Commenter, said. "This is the, the beacon of what you really want public education to be."
Several commenters highlighted teacher longevity and the school's size and offerings. "We really offer a boutique education with all sorts of excellent extracurriculars and ... class offerings that many schools our size can't offer," Speaker 4, Commenter, said. One speaker added, "of our teachers went here. They're very proud of the school," (Speaker 5, Commenter).
Speakers also emphasized the school's diversity and the role that daily interaction with peers from different backgrounds plays in preparing students for adult life. "We we have a diverse population. We have a a diverse way of thinking ... the more kids are immersed in that ... it prepares them for their their next career," Speaker 2 said. Another speaker said the daily time with students is an opportunity "to make a difference in the future of our world by impacting the individual lives" (Speaker 7, Commenter).
