Lake Dallas Independent School District is digitizing its facilities inventory and emergency assets with a Matterport 3‑D mapping system, Chief Operations Officer John Modica told the board at the May 19 meeting.
Modica said the district partnered with BELFOR restoration and has scanned every district building; the Matterport platform provides a two‑dimensional floor plan and clickable 3‑D interior views. "We can tag anything within the building," Modica said, demonstrating tags for an AED, a bleed kit, a water heater (with installed date), and HVAC control systems. Tags can include inspection dates, warranty documents and vendor contact information.
Why it matters: Modica said the system is intended both for facilities maintenance and emergency response. Tagged shutoffs for water, gas and electric can be located in the 3‑D view so campus administrators, SROs or maintenance staff can find them quickly in an emergency. Modica said the district plans to integrate Matterport tags with IncidentIQ, the district's work‑order system, so vendors such as HVAC contractors can open and complete work orders and see asset histories while district staff maintain broader inventories.
Board discussion: Trustees asked whether outside vendors would have access; Modica said access can be limited and that vendors will likely use the IncidentIQ side of the integration while the district retains the richer Matterport asset data.
Next steps: Modica said the district will scan the new CTE building once construction is finished and will continue tagging artifacts, warranties and inspection reminders for all facilities.
