Public works seeks one-year, $200,000 increase for on-call architecture/engineering contract

Public works told the Board of County Commissioners it will request a one-year extension and a $200,000 increase to its on-call architecture and engineering (EADA) contract at the May 27 meeting, bringing the total not-to-exceed value to $300,000.
Savannah Clement, public works, said the requested additional funds reflect outstanding proposals and expected work including the Hall of Justice feasibility study, annex completion tasks, parks renderings and anticipated juvenile roof and jail-lobby proposals that have not yet arrived. "That 200,000 reflects all of our outstanding proposals," Clement said.
Clement said the county has spent only a portion of the existing contract and that the requested increase would not be guaranteed payment but would allow the department to authorize needed project work as proposals are returned. "If we don't spend that, then we won't spend it. It's not like a guaranteed amount," she said.
Commissioners asked about historical spending under the contract and whether the $200,000 is an addition or a total cap; staff confirmed it is an additional $200,000 to the current contract, making a proposed total upper bound of $300,000 for the extended year. Staff said they plan to re-bid the on-call contract after the possible extension period ends.
