Council OKs $120,000 contingency increase for Ward 7 splash pad contract

Smyrna — The Mayor and Council authorized a $120,000 change order Monday to add contingency funding to the contract for the Ward 7 splash pad, increasing the contract ceiling from $2,361,808.88 to $2,481,808.88.
Councilmember Oglesby, whose ward includes the splash pad, said the change is intended to keep momentum on construction and allow the project team to address issues as they arise. "I drove by yesterday. It's moving right along," Oglesby said during the meeting.
The change order amends the adopted 2022 SPLOST project budget for the splash pad and authorizes the mayor to sign related documents. Council approved the amendment unanimously, 6-0.
Staff said the additional contingency will help ensure the contractor can address unforeseen conditions without pausing work and will allow the city to maintain the construction schedule. The council recorded no public comments on the item during the meeting.
