Smyrna โ Mike Jones was approved and sworn in as interim city administrator by the Smyrna Mayor and Council on Monday after a unanimous vote.
Mayor Derek Norton introduced Jones and recounted Jones's background, which includes prior service as Smyrna city administrator, vice president and regional manager roles in private-sector engineering firms and past service as county administrator for Paulding County. "I appreciate the confidence in me," Jones said after being invited to speak, and he pledged to "give you everything I got" if council would have him.
Council moved to approve Jones's appointment and conducted a vote; the motion to approve carried 6-0. Following the vote, Mayor Norton administered the oath of office. Jones repeated the oath, which included a commitment to enforce the city's charter and ordinances and to act in the best interests of the city.
In his brief remarks on the dais, Jones said he looked forward to returning to Smyrna and praised the pace and quality of local public improvement projects, noting downtown improvements and parks work. The council did not identify a term length in the public discussion; the item described the appointment as interim.
Council members welcomed Jones back and noted his prior experience with the city and regional engineering firms. The official resolution and contract documents authorizing the appointment were executed as part of the meeting's consent agenda and oath administration.
