Burton council approves SRF project, railroad crossing work and budget amendments

The Burton City Council voted unanimously to approve a package of infrastructure and administrative actions at its meeting, including an SRF 5 project award, construction engineering funding for the SRF 5 work, planning and engineering for the Bristol Road railroad crossing, a jurisdictional agreement for a shared road project, payment of attorney billing and a general fund budget amendment.

Councilman Timothy Heffner moved the motions on multiple items and Councilwoman Hixson supported them; roll call votes recorded all members as voting yes on each item. “Motion carried,” the clerk announced after the roll calls.

On the SRF 5 project the council recorded that the project was “approved and underwritten.” The planning and engineering item for the Bristol Road railroad crossing drew a brief explanation from Heffner that the work is an interagency effort: “We partnered with them on this one … they’re handling that. We’re just participating and paying our share,” he said, describing a split of responsibility and cost between jurisdictions.

The council also approved entering a closed session under Section 8(c) of the Open Meetings Act to discuss contract strategy. The motion to go into closed session was made by Councilman Heffner and seconded by Vice President Hall; the roll call recorded affirmative votes from all council members. Administrative staff said they did not expect any formal action to follow the closed session.
