Speedway staff to seek MPO grant, move Main Street survey into design phase

The Speedway Redevelopment Commission heard updates Tuesday that staff will apply for a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) grant to study a Sixteenth Street redesign and that a Main Street topographical survey has been completed and approved.
Economic Director Kyle Markley said the MPO grant application window opens June 1 with applications due July 1. He also reported that Keyser Consulting delivered a Main Street topographical survey, which staff reviewed and approved and said must now move to the design phase.
Markley also noted a traffic study referenced at the meeting had completed traffic counts and that staff expects a preliminary report within about a week. Commissioners did not vote on the MPO grant application at the meeting; they received the update and directed staff to proceed with the grant application and subsequent design work as appropriate.
