Commission approves maintenance agreement acknowledging county responsibility for some TDOT-installed roadway improvements

Dickson County commissioners approved a maintenance agreement with the Tennessee Department of Transportation that acknowledges the county will maintain certain safety improvements the state installs.
The matter was described by Mr. Reagan, who explained the state sometimes installs safety improvements and requests a county acknowledgement that the county will maintain the installed features. “Once they make those improvements, they want us to sign something acknowledging that they will not be maintaining them, that it'll be our responsibility to maintain what has been installed,” Reagan said. The resolution includes a list of roads and locations where the state’s improvements were made.
Commissioners asked whether the agreement included a specific term; Mr. Reagan said he did not see a term in the current document and believes the intent is to acknowledge responsibility rather than establish a fixed maintenance term. Commissioners approved the agreement by voice vote after a motion by Commissioner Gray and a second by Commissioner Simpkins.
Staff and commissioners noted the county has handled similar agreements on prior projects and that the resolution is standard practice to clarify maintenance responsibilities after state work.
