Extension budget includes seasonal admin vacancy; HR will correct pay-period accounting

Extension staff briefed the Bonner County Board of Commissioners on salary lines for the University of Idaho Extension office and said they do not anticipate broad salary changes for current employees.
The extension educator said the office is recruiting for a part-time seasonal administrative assistant and that she included a possible slight increase for that role in the spreadsheet after finding prior years’ pay-period counts were incorrect. She explained that the position normally works about 19 hours per week but had been recorded as 19 hours per pay period with 13 pay periods in past records, which inflated earlier budget lines.
“Normally, this person works about 19 hours per week, so 38 hours per pay period. But then it usually ends up being about 9 pay periods,” the extension educator said, describing how the historical entries did not match actual practice. The educator said she calculated an adjusted request of about $7,375 for the position but acknowledged actual cost could be lower depending on hire date and pay rate.
County staff said HR and auditing will make the formal adjustments in the next round of budget preparation at the commissioner level. There was no formal action taken during the workshop.
Ending: Commissioners requested that HR and auditing correct pay-period accounting and asked extension staff to continue recruitment for the seasonal assistant.
