A Taylorsville resident, Chanel Hill, used the citizen-comment period to press the council for immediate safety improvements on Atherton Drive between 1300 West and 4200 South.
Hill said the segment is “a danger zone” during morning, afternoon and late-night hours. She told the council she has documented incidents including two high-speed chases in three years and approximately 10 traffic accidents in her time living there. Hill said the corridor serves about 350 elementary students, 175 families and 50 staff members and requested a package of measures: installation of speed bumps (she described an initial goal of multiple speed bumps), improved sidewalks and marked crosswalks, and enhanced lighting near schools and daycare facilities. She said roughly 83 families are prepared to support the effort.
Council members thanked Hill for the information and research; no formal council action or motion to direct staff was recorded during the meeting.
Ending: Hill offered to help organize residents and raise funds; the council closed citizen comments and continued with the agenda.
