Home safety and repair program reports 103 projects completed, $80,000 remaining in budget

Town staff reported progress on the Home Safety and Repair Program at the May 14 Housing Action Committee meeting, saying the program has completed 103 projects since its inception and 18 projects since the last update.
"Since February, the last time I provided you all with an update for the home safety and repair program... we have completed 18 projects since that time with roughly 8 still under contract," said Sharonica Stewart, who provided the program update. Stewart said the program had "roughly $80,000" remaining in its budget and staff are actively researching funding opportunities to sustain the program. She added that contractors were asked to complete projects by June where practicable to reduce carryover into the next fiscal year.
Stewart said partner organizations under discussion for future funding or collaboration include the SC Housing Trust Fund and Buford Jasper Housing Trust (as referenced in the meeting packet). Committee members asked no substantive procedural questions during the update and expressed thanks for the program’s work.
The update did not include a line-item funding commitment from the town beyond the remaining $80,000 referenced; staff said they are evaluating options and pursuing partner grants and funds. The program team will continue work on the remaining contracts and on identifying sustainable funding sources.
