Lebanon FFA quiz bowl team wins district, advances to state convention in June

The team consists of freshmen Lucas Ergotay and Blake Ergotay and freshmen Braden Adams and Garrett Adams. Blake Ergotay said he "will be serving as the vice president" for the Lebanon FFA chapter in the coming year; Garrett Adams said he served as chapter sentinel this past year and will be the chapter secretary next year. Garrett was also described on the podcast as the chapter’s first-ever eighth-grade officer.
The group described other recent contest results. Lucas Ergotay said Lebanon’s milk quality and products team placed sixth at the state level in its first time competing in that contest. Blake and Garrett participated in a demonstration event this year; Blake said the demo "didn't do so well." Participants also listed other events they attended or competed in this year, including parliamentary procedures, agricultural issues, prepared public speaking and volleyball tournaments.
Students described how they prepare for quiz bowl. The team said they split the quiz-bank study material into categories — dates, people and activities — and practiced those sections week by week. Team members named online practice tools they use, including GIM kits and Blickets, and said they hold study sessions and morning practices to build familiarity with the question bank.
On the podcast, students also described personal results and motivations: Lucas mentioned scoring 49 out of 50 on an exam, and team members said they join FFA for career opportunities, scholarships and the chance to meet people. The host, Lauren Ergotay, identified herself as a City of Lebanon intern and said the interview was part of the Learn in Lebanon podcast series produced with the Lebanon Community School Corporation.
State convention in June is the team’s next scheduled competition. Team members said they plan to continue practicing and attending study sessions through the spring to prepare for the event.
