Board adopts 2025-26 school calendar using waiver days; preschool and graduation dates set

Assistant Superintendent Jason Taylor told the board the district again received performance-qualified waiver days from the Indiana Department of Education and will use the flexibility to submit instructional time in minutes instead of strictly using a 180-day count.
Under the adopted calendar, the district will insert two waiver days (one at the start of the year and a second on Jan. 5) so the first student day of the second semester will be Jan. 6 in the school year. The presentation also listed the preschool start date as Aug. 6 and corrected the high-school graduation date to the traditional Sunday following the last week of school (presented as May 30 in the meeting). Taylor said using waiver days has been the district practice for several years and allows scheduling flexibility consistent with prior years. The board approved the calendar by motion and voice vote.
The calendar discussion included a note that the waiver day approach permits the district to begin in August and finish before Memorial Day in subsequent years, depending on holiday timing.
