Assistant Superintendent Jason Taylor presented the recommendation to approve contracts with CMTA to complete remaining work in the first phase of the district's energy-savings project, including a roof-mounted unit at Sugar Grove and additional controls at three locations to add variable-speed drives to existing pumps.
Taylor said the installation will reduce energy costs and that CMTA provides a guaranteed level of savings; if the guaranteed savings are not achieved, the district will receive the difference from the contractor. The presentation included a projected first-year savings figure of $84,000 for the completed measures; Taylor also told the board that in the first quarter of 2025 the district realized roughly $100,000 in utility cost savings for work already completed and activated.
Board member questions covered how the savings have been realized and the project schedule. Taylor said the remaining work is expected to be complete by the fall of 2025 and that one school (Maple Grove) will require a full summer shutdown for HVAC changeover. The board voted to approve the recommended contracts at the meeting.
Action taken: a motion to approve the remaining energy savings project was made, seconded and passed; the meeting record shows an affirmative voice vote ("ayes have it").
What this means: staff said the project will continue to produce savings that the district intends to allocate to the operations fund; the guaranteed-savings contract structure means shortfalls are contractually remedied.
