Kate Roberts, board member, told the Civil Service Merit Board on May 14 that the selection committee has scheduled interviews of six candidates next week as part of the search for the civil service secretary/director.
“We are interviewing 6 candidates next week,” Roberts said, and the panel expects to complete initial interviews, then convene a second round for finalists. Roberts said the committee aims to present a short list of finalists to the board and noted the committee wants to avoid keeping candidates waiting.
Roberts said the committee plans to vet references beyond standard, positive referrals and will follow up with civil service HR staff on vetting procedures. The committee also discussed logistics for board-level interviews and the possibility of convening a special meeting or using the regular July meeting to complete the process.
Committee members emphasized bringing enough finalists forward to account for candidates withdrawing or accepting other positions. Roberts said the group hopes the process could conclude quickly and that an offer might be possible in July, depending on scheduling and vetting results.
