Huntley High School’s journalism team earned a tie for the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) state journalism championship, coaches told the Huntley Community School District 158 Board of Education during the meeting’s recognition segment.
Advisers and sponsors outlined team results from the state finals and earlier sectionals, naming students who placed in individual events including radio news, TV news, infographics and photo storytelling. Coaches noted that Huntley tied for the state championship with Prospect after a final set of yearbook placements pushed the team’s total points above other schools.
One adviser said the team’s achievement was especially meaningful because it is the final year for a longtime adviser and because families, staff and emergency services turned out to celebrate the team’s return. The board and administration thanked students, coaches and parents.
Separately, the high‑school newscast received the Crystal Pillar award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for best newscast; students were recognized for editing, production and music packages. The advisers noted the students also placed highly in a national organization’s rankings announced the same week.
Earlier in the meeting, elementary robotics club students and coaches from several elementary schools presented a short demonstration and described a recent cross‑district exhibition. Students spoke about building projects and teamwork; coaches thanked the board for support of extracurricular programs.
The board and administration expressed congratulations and highlighted district support for journalism, media and STEM extracurriculars. No formal board actions were associated with the recognitions.
